Karen Linnik Health & Wellness befit, behealthy, bergen, cliffsidepark, energy, energyzonewellnesscenter, foodie, health, healthy, holistichealth, newjersey, VitaminC 0

Life is a beautiful concept that can wash up opportunities from the heaviest of tides. However, as life goes on and time thins out, we are all guilty of taking advantage of our body’s health. We busy Americans overwork our bodies and forget to follow a healthy lifestyle to help them recover. However, boosting your body’s strength can be both – easy and delicious.

Don’t believe us?

The Energy Zone Wellness Center presents you with…

Ten Vitamin C Rich Foods

It is important to understand initially that vitamin C is crucial for all sorts of bodily circumstances. Vitamin C is needed for growth, development, and the repair of all body tissues. It’s involved in many body functions, such as the immune system to battle off stubborn colds, the formation of collagen to support connective tissues, and the absorption of iron to keep healthy amounts of oxygen in your blood flow. Also, vitamin C supports wound healing and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth to provide ultimate health for your body. Thereby, it is vital as a human being to make sure that this vitamin is maintained in healthy amounts.

Here’s how:

  1. Guava: From the lush paradise regions in Mexico to the tropical palaces in Thailand, the guava fruit holds its place on the vitamin C throne. In just one cup of guavas, you can find there to be 419% DV (377mg) vitamin C. With only 112 calories, you could replenish your body with nutrients to make you healthy and energized. Not such a bad deal for such a delicious fruit if we don’t say so ourselves.
  2. Bell Peppers: Still in the royal family stands the bell peppers and their native roots from Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. This perfect add-on ingredient (or even just a snack) can go seamlessly in any dish with amazing antioxidant benefits. Bell peppers have 211% DV (190mg) vitamin C per cup. In this serving, there are approximately 46 calories and a refreshing sweetness that will please your taste buds. Your meal plan has now been revolutionized.
  3. Kiwi: Moving about the social pyramid of this vitamin stands the noble kiwi with roots tracing from northern China to New Zealand. With its beautiful vibrant green interior, 185% DV (167mg) vitamin C can be found per cup serving. Such an exotic fruit can be served in fruit salads to integrate new flavors and nutrients along with simply cutting the fruit in half and eating it with a tiny spoon to make you feel especially fancy. In this serving, you can enjoy 110 calories worth of pure joy. You are very welcome.
  4. Strawberries: Roaming about the strict social structure wanders the strawberries that come all the way from the fresh fields of California. With plenty of culinary uses, the strawberry comes with 108% DV (98mg) vitamin C per cup serving and the lasting happiness of healthy and tasty snacking. From smoothies to giving yogurt some life, this serving of strawberries has 53 calories and 8 grams of sugar. Along the same family, you can find that raspberries have 36% DV vitamin C per cup, blackberries have 34% DV vitamin C per cup, and finally blueberries with a whopping 16% DV vitamin C per cup serving. Save the applause for later, we are not quite finished yet.
  5. Orange: On the fifth rank sits the long-awaited for orange and its amazing vitamin C properties. In one cup of oranges, you can find 106% DV (96mg) vitamin C and a worth-it 85 calories. These fruits, largely grown in Florida, are easily obtainable in all sorts of fashions, whether it be through peeling rinds and enjoying them the way nature intended or through juices and all-natural sorbets. In the citrus category, other fruits that are high in vitamin C include pomelos with 413% DV vitamin C in a fruit serving, grapefruits with 98% DV vitamin C in a fruit serving, clementines with 40% DV in a fruit serving, and lastly lemons with 34% DV in one fruit serving. Orange you glad you know this now?
  6. Papaya: In honor of the tropical, vitamin-rich fruit, the papaya celebrates an entire month in September nationally. This southern Mexican fruit has 98% DV (88mg) vitamin C and 62 calories per cup serving. They can be enjoyed bare or dried into delicious snacks to satisfy your sweet tooth with all the health benefits. To follow the list of tropical fruits that are also high in vitamin C, we have the pineapple with 88% DV vitamin C in a one cup serving, cantaloupe melon with 72% DV in a one cup serving, mango with 67% DV in a one cup serving, and finally the honeydew melon with 34% DV in a one cup serving. May the feast begin!
  7. Broccoli: Beyond the fruits, many “controversial” vegetables appear to have high vitamin qualities as well. The highly debatable and underrated broccoli has 90% DV (81mg) vitamin C and 31 calories per cup serving and can absolutely freshen up any meal. From spreads to soups, from pasta to salads, broccoli can be added to anything to achieve an absolute brilliant flavor and texture, despite any prejudice you may hold. Other brassica vegetables that have a notable vitamin C quantity include brussels sprouts with 107% DV vitamin C in a one cup serving, cabbage with 63% DV vitamin C in a one cup serving, and cauliflower with 61% DV vitamin C in a one cup serving. You simply can not forget to eat your vegetables!
  8. Tomatoes: The classic fruit, though often mistaken as a vegetable, tomatoes are a very popular and simple way to add vitamin C into your diet. With 61% DV (55mg) vitamin C per cup, cooked tomatoes have 43 calories in this serving and can easily be incorporated into almost any meal. Your favorite kinds of pasta and old recipes can easily be excited with the use of tomatoes, and so can your health. It’s fair that you will say that you’ll “feel great, from my head tomatoes!”

Kale has been around for centuries with absolute reason, for cooked kale has 59% DV (53mg) vitamin C per cup and a total of 36 calories. They can be enjoyed as lightly salted chips, thrown into salads, or even used into smoothies to let you get a positive start in the day!  Other green leafy vegetables that are high in vitamin C include one cup of turnip greens which has 44% DV vitamin C, one cup of swiss chard which has 35% DV vitamin C, and one cup of spinach which has 20% DV vitamin C. Pursuing a healthy lifestyle certainly can be made tasty.
  10. Snow Peas: Lastly, on the ever-growing list of antioxidants, the delicate snow peas conclude this list of immune-boosting foods. In one cup of snow peas, you can find 42% DV (38mg) vitamin C and 26 calories. These addicting vegetables are sweet and crunchy for those that are looking for something tasty and healthy to munch on. They are absolutely perfect for any occasion, and your body will thank us, too. Happy detoxing!

Do These Needles Reduce Pain?

Karen Linnik Health & Wellness acupuncture, behealthy, bergen, cliffsidepark, energyzonewellnesscenter, health, needles, newjersey 0

Needles have been sending feelings of dread in many people for decades, but how would it change your perception if they were to be used for reasons other than vaccines and blood work? From the holistic health techniques that branches from Traditional Chinese Medicine practices, acupuncture is a relatively painless procedure that provides unbelievable benefits for you mentally and physically. It is time to decide whether or not the benefits of this therapy are significant to you or not, and the Energy Zone Wellness Center is here for you to figure that out!

Here are Six Foolproof Reasons To Get an Acupuncture.

  1. The very first reason is self-explanatory, where getting an acupuncture can improve a spectrum of types of pain, including chronic pain or slight discomfort. Acupuncture will help you relieve yourself from the debris of discomfort you may deal with from work, such as pain in the back and lower back, neck, knee, or even arthritis pain. It is proven that patients with these aches that receive acupuncture have significantly less pain than coming in with, therefore, it is now known that this therapy is effective for the treatment of chronic pain.  If you are looking for pain relief, this therapy may be your answer so that you can rejuvenate your body’s energy. In a society of deadlines and cramped schedules, such a treatment can come in very handy!
  2. You shall not pass, migraines! In theory, a migraine is thought to begin as an electrical phenomenon in the cerebrum that then tampers with blood vessels, which then causes neurogenic inflammation. Acupuncture helps in the treatment of migraines by providing pain relief through the stimulation of nerves, reduction inflammation and the degree of cortical spreading depression, modulation extracranial and intracranial blood flow, and by influencing serotonin levels in the brain.  This mouthful of scientific terms ultimately refers to the promise that headaches and negative frequencies can be eased by acupunctures through numerous medicinal studies.
  3. Insomnia will be a problem of the past. The Beijing University of Chinese Medicine has conducted a large study in the year of 2009 to prove that having undergone acupuncture helps reduce insomnia symptoms drastically. It found that patients that were taking medications or herbal treatments to help with their slumber showed had better effects when adding the acupuncture therapy. Everyone deserves better sleep, so you should consider getting this treatment as an option because unlike sleep medications, acupuncture sessions have no side effects whatsoever. Energy is so essential, yet so difficult to obtain during busy times like these, but getting fulfilling rest is right at the ends of your fingertips!
  4. Pregnancy opens up a whole new world for a mother – a world that fills her heart with a new type of love and one of nausea and unbalanced hormones. Many doctors are finding that acupuncture serves as a beneficial treatment to reduce stress, balance hormones, and ease the pain of pregnancy and labor. Acupunctures are deemed safe for many common symptoms during a pregnancy to ease the mental and physical strain on the body along with those after the baby is born to help with any other symptoms a mother may experience. This treatment can even be used at a time before a baby is due to prepare the body for labor. Consider this treatment to make motherhood the best experience it could possibly be for both, the mother and her child.
  5. Acupuncture never flinches in the face of cancer, and neither should you. According to cancer institutes, studies show that this treatment can help boost immunity and speed of recovery after cancer treatments. It has been proven that getting an acupuncture can enhance immunity, platelet count and disallow a decrease in health cells following radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This treatment also can reduce pain from treatments, allow improvements in the quality of living and a decrease in various negative effects of chemotherapy, like nausea. Battling cancer or recovering from it does not ever have to be fought alone, and the Energy Zone Wellness Center is here for support with relaxing treatments to help you!
  6. Ultimately, it has been proven time and time again that acupuncture is effective in preventing cognitive decline, such as Parkinson’s. This treatment can effectively relieve age-relative cognitive decline symptoms while it creates a neural response in areas of the brain that are affected by this disease (putamen and the thalamus). In a study, after 20 Parkinson’s patients are treated with acupuncture for 16 sessions, 85 percent of patients reported subjective improvements in certain symptoms, such as tremor, walking, handwriting, slowness, pain, sleep, depression, and anxiety without any side effects. With these benefits, all people can truly see the beauty of getting an acupuncture to not just improve life for themselves, but also for others.

6 Mind Blowing Reasons As To Why Getting Massages Is Important!

Karen Linnik Health & Wellness behealthy, bergen, cliffsidepark, energyzonewellnesscenter, massage, newjersey 0

It has been proven endlessly that the greatest things in life are savored effortlessly. Though it has been given a negative stigma, maintaining a healthy mental and physical lifestyle can be enjoyed simply as well. The Energy Zone Wellness Center presents you with our large selection of massages to ensure that you will hear your sigh of relaxation once again!

The question now is, why?

Here’s Six Mind Blowing Reasons as to Why Getting Massages is Important

  1. Two words: Better. Sleep. Getting a massage can encourage a soothing slumber and it helps those that otherwise cannot comfortably snooze. Studies show that massages positively influence delta waves and the release of serotonin, which is the body’s natural supply of anti-pain chemicals, providing deep and efficient sleep. See you never, insomnia.
  2. Here’s a simple formula: massages equal happiness! Getting a good rub down decreases stress hormone cortisol effectively while boosting those that trigger happiness, such as serotonin and dopamine. This can occur in the peaceful and quiet atmosphere that the Energy Zone Wellness Center will provide you with and the soothing release of tension in your body. Such a reaction will instantly improve mental health drastically… even more efficiently than The Office marathon!
  3. Goodbye migraines and hello clear thinking! Yes, we know exactly what you were thinking, but no, massages are much more than relievers of sore backs and muscles. Massages relieve headaches by causing the body’s parasympathetic nervous system to kick in, otherwise known as the restful mode. There are trigger points in the neck and shoulders that automatically refer pain to the head and massaging those points can almost instantly make headaches disappear. Yes, that is applause you are hearing.
  4. In the name of massages, we say, “Not today, stress!”  It has been proven that massages can lower heart rate and blood pressure, calm muscles and promote the production of endorphins, a positive body chemical. Simultaneously, serotonin and dopamine are released throughout this calming procedure, which will ultimately result in a feeling of serenity that makes problems such as depression, anxiety, along with acute or short-termed stress much easier to overcome. You are so very welcome.
  5. It is a universal understanding among human beings that we willingly, or subconsciously, abuse our bodies on a regular basis. This damage can be left unnoticed from those late night binging sprees of your favorite shows and tapping into those guilty, edible pleasures. For the ultimate detox, a massage helps the body to get back on track for maximum health potential. This is due to the fact that massages aid in eliminating stagnate toxins in the body. This spa treatment increases blood flow while simultaneously performing lymphatic drainage. The toxins leave the cells to make room for nutrients during this procedure, which will leave an enriching effect on your whole body. Your days of detox juices have just gotten a whole lot brighter.
  6. Last, but never least, massage therapy relaxes the muscle tissue, which will consequently reduce painful contractions and spasms. Also, this therapy reduces nerve compression, fighting against the accumulating discomfort from slouching. When the muscles are contracted, they sometimes compress the nerves around them. We both know you do it; no shame here, just solutions! By touching the skin or applying pressure during the massage, muscles, tendons, and ligaments can be relaxed, allowing you to regain energy to take on the world. Come on, your body is practically begging to get one.

Love Me Scrub Me

We all have routines for self-care — some being much simpler than others. Whether showers last just a couple extra minutes to moisturize or last long enough to alarm your housemate(s), sometimes excessive routines can still be lacking. From scented face cleansers to a collection of shower gels, your bathroom has it all, but have you invested in the idea of body scrubs?

Here are three simple reasons why you should let Energy Zone Wellness Center make your exfoliation game strong.

  1. The removal of dead skin cells is absolutely vital to the world of healthy living and beauty. Dead skin cells, the biological demons that clog your pores, are known for their damage as they can dull skin tones and block pores to eventually cause blackheads and wrinkles. What you may not have known is that they prevent serums and moisturizers from being absorbed, which is absolutely frightening to those who essentially live on these creams — you know who you are. Luckily, our body scrub services are here to exfoliate your skin beyond its surface level to rid you of dead skin and to leave you soft and glowing!
  2. Body scrubs, just like many of our other services, will refresh your appearance and increase your confidence. From one skincare obsessed individual to another, nothing is as relaxing or satisfying as rejuvenating yourself from all the unwanted inhabitants in your skin through something as soothing as a scrub. With this beauty product, you can say goodbye to rough looking skin and impurities. Also, to those that are undergoing skin discoloration as a result of tanning or blemishes, this service is the perfect step to refreshing yourself! With that being said, having fresh and naturally beautiful skin will instantly improve your self-confidence.
  3. One word that can describe this last reason is “life”. This spa treatment is the most efficient way to reduce stress from seemingly never-ending work hours and tension from outside sources. The entire treatment experience, along with a massage and facial, is a pleasing and calming method of releasing tension in the mind and body. The Energy Zone Wellness Center will help you recover from the bitter winter behind you and refresh you for the new upcoming season. ’Tis the season of renewal!

In honor of Summer, the Energy Zone Wellness Center is offering a Summer Skin Care Special, $95 1 hour Body Scrub and 30 minute Mini Facial! Offer is in effect until the end of August.

5 Benefits of Aromatherapy

Karen Linnik Health & Wellness aroma, aromatherapy, behealthy, destress, essentialoils, health, oils, positivity, relaxing, relief, selfcare, selflove 0

Whether it is work or something else, people are an overdriven unanimous group that deals with stress on a regular basis. Stress is an engine that can pressure us into accomplishing great things, however, much like anything, it shouldn’t be taken in large portions. Fortunately, from one workaholic to another, tension can be eased with a little bit of breathing, a bit of relaxing, and a collection of essential oils…

Here are 5 facts about the effects essential oils have on your body :

  1. Essential oils are multifunctional and have a wide range of usage to satisfy individual needs. Results show that oils work only when the body needs it! If there is no need for their effects, then their overall effect is minimal. Science thought of everything!
  2. Essential oils are not toxic and are natural, for they consist of the same substances as our bodies. They are absorbed by the body of the user and begin to work within only a few seconds after application. The thermal energy from the body leads to faster penetration and better results. Relief isn’t in a pill or a bowl of ice-cream, it is in a tiny tinted bottle, waiting to be applied!
  3. Essential oils, having a higher frequency range, work with emotions and spirituality and those with a lower frequency have a deeper effect on our physical body. These oils that are combined in a mixture are meant to intensify their effect – the effect of synergy. It is important to understand your physical and mental needs for aromatherapy to have a lasting, greater effect. Try getting an aromatherapy massage at the Energy Zone Wellness Center.
  4. Upon approximately 23 seconds after the inhalation of essential oil, electrical impulses reach the olfactory bulb in the brain, which then transmits these impulses to other parts of the body. This just shows the major lightbulb moment your body will have after practicing aromatherapy!
  5. Human brain cells begin to mutate when their frequency falls below 62 MHz and low frequencies indicate a pH imbalance. Inhaling the essence of essential oils helps prevent this pH imbalance!

It is vital to understand your body’s and mind’s needs to be able to ease tension. If you personally have made it through this entire page then it is safe to say you are in search of something to revolutionize your lifestyle. Essential oils have a deep physiological and psychological effect that can significantly increase the range of how humans perceive maintaining health and happiness. The only question left now to resolve is are you ready for a beneficial lifestyle change, a lasting positive mental impact, and a new obsession of diffusers and unique scents? The Energy Zone Wellness Center is here to help you say YES.

The power of essential oils should never be taken for granted! In relation to our everyday lives, people with whom we communicate with, the oppressive impact of the media, all negative emotions and states of fear, resentment, sorrow, and hatred all have a strong frequency and disrupt our health and well being. If not released, tension from these reoccurring influences can build up in itself and will test the quality of your life. So, the Energy Zone Wellness Center invites you to experience the world of aromatherapy and use of essential oils to overcome the negativity these frequencies have on us! Come visit our essential oil infused steam room and try out our aromatherapy massage!

8 Miracle Products That are Rich in Calcium

Karen Linnik Health & Wellness Beauty, befit, behealthy, Calcium, energyzone, food, foodie, health, healthyliving, selfcare, selflove, SpreadWellness, summer, summerbody, wellness 0

Calcium, a mineral that is often generalized and ignored in the average diet, is a vital element that can improve the quality of your health! We are talking about better bone structure, a properly functioning heart, muscles and nerves, and most importantly, the prevention against cancer, diabetes, weight gain, and high blood pressure. To all my ladies out there, problems like PMS and a hormonal unbalance can be solved with healthy calcium levels. So please, pull up a chair, sit back, relax, and enlighten yourself with the following life-changing list presented to you by the Energy Zone Wellness Center.

  1. Chia seeds, despite their small appearance, are a major plant source of calcium. Approximately, one ounce or two tablespoons of these seeds can provide 179 mg of calcium. Chia seeds also contain boron, which promotes healthy bones and muscles as well as the metabolization of phosphorus, magnesium, and (believe it or not) calcium.
  2. Not all heroes wear capes, some are just nutritional like a cup of enriched soy milk… One cup of soy milk contains an equivalent amount of calcium as cow’s milk and should be consumed because it is absolutely vital to choose a product enriched with calcium carbonate. Additionally, soy milk is rich in vitamin D and contains less saturated fat than whole milk with lactose.
  3. Almonds, as tasty as they are, apparently have much more nutritional value than just satisfying your taste buds one bite at a time. Just one cup of almonds contains 385 mg of calcium, which is just about one-third of the recommended amount per day! However, it is important to acknowledge that this serving contains 838 calories and almost 72 grams of fat. While fat is mostly curative and monounsaturated, the amount of calories is still high, therefore the intake of these nuts should be limited. It seemed too good to be true, but they can still be enjoyed in small portions, such as a quarter cup per serving instead.
  4. Dried figs are the holy grail of improving calcium levels in the body. One cup of this product provides 241 mg of calcium while delivering a sweet taste and enriching your body with fiber and antioxidants. Why yes, that is angelic music playing in the background. Try eating them as a midday snack or incorporate them into foods you love to add the sweetness you crave!
  5. Sunflower seeds, the high-maintenance snack that we all love, contain 109 mg of calcium per cup. These seeds are highly rich in magnesium, which balances the input of calcium in the body and regulates the condition of nerves and muscles. Also, the kernels of sunflower seeds contain vitamin E and copper. When combined, the two coexisting nutrients can contribute to the flexibility of bones and the prevention of malnourishment of the skeletal system. However, it is also important to keep in mind the large amount of added salt found in sunflower seeds, which can, unfortunately, deplete the calcium levels in the body. For optimal health benefits, you should consider choosing raw, unsalted seeds.
  6. When your body cries for calcium, sesame seeds are yet another miracle worker for giving your body the daily nutrients it needs. Yes, these teeny-tiny seeds that appear in your salad and bagels from time-to-time are actually immensely beneficial! Just one tablespoon of sesame seeds can add 88 mg of calcium to the human diet. Ground sesame, the way it is usually presented, is very useful to add in salads other dishes, thereby it is better absorbed by your body.
  7. The mini trees that appeared on your plate as a child and haunted your taste buds since then, also known as broccoli, are crucial for building up calcium levels. Just one cup of frozen broccoli contains 87 mg of calcium. Not too scary now, is it? What’s even more miraculous about broccoli is that according to the National Cancer Institute in the United States, a diet rich in broccoli and other members of the cruciferous family may be associated with a reduced risk in cancer. Spread the word!
  8. Last, but never least, oranges and orange juice are absolutely phenomenal when it comes to improving calcium levels in your diet. It is seldom known that one large orange does not just let you feel like you are relaxing on a Floridian beach, but it also contains 74 mg of calcium to add to your system. Also, one glass of orange juice enriched with calcium contains 300 mg of calcium. “Orange” you glad you know this now? 😉

Energy Zone Wellness Center Before and After HydraFacial

Many people that need this sort of cleanse for their face can be intimidated by having a machine perform the procedure on the skin, but rest assured that it is entirely

natural. The HydraFacial operates by nourishing pores through various serums, with the first one removing impurities in the skin and the second providing a deep cleanse in the pores. Soon after, many antioxidants, growth factors, and hyaluronic acids are applied to further protect the skin. While the serums work their magic, blood flow is automatically stimulated in the face to reduce any visibility of wrinkles. This treatment will leave your skin hydrated, fresh-feeling, and glowing when you need it the most!

What Should You Eat In The Summer?

Karen Linnik Health & Wellness befit, behealthy, energyzone, food, foodie, health, healthyliving, selfcare, selflove, summer, summerbody, wellness 0

Seasons change due to the Earth’s movement around the Sun. In the summer, the sun has the strongest impact on us. Since the late Winter, the sun is getting hotter, and the days are getting warmer. Now the sun is at its warmest and we are exposed to some of the hottest longest days of the year. Since the Earth’s internal heat increases, the heat rises to the surface and our bodies lose moisture and accumulate dryness. At the same time, the internal fire of our digestion weakens, and we cannot digest heavy foods!

In the summer season, it is not recommended to eat food with a salty, sharp and sour taste, since they contain heating properties, which will further distress our already warmed bodies. It is necessary for our bodies to keep moisture, therefore, we must consume more light, cool, and moist food. Avoid heavy, fried, fatty foods, a surplus of protein, nuts, and milk because all dairy products are hard to digest. It is also necessary to avoid alcohol due to its warming effect on the body.

In the summer, our body’s strength is weakened. In order to maintain it, your body needs a good night’s sleep. Even the occasional nap during the day is beneficial! It is extremely important to avoid excessive physical and sexual activity, all of which deprive your body of its strength.

During the summer, you need to take care of yourself, so listen to your body’s changes. Pay attention to weather fluctuations because dramatic changes generate great stress! Thus, it is important to eat more vegetables and greens, with half the portion being raw and the other cooked, cereals, berries, and fruit. Meat and fish should be consumed sparingly and with vegetables, should not be fried and should be avoided at night. Additionally, it is vital to drink an abundant amount of water.

Furthermore, it is highly recommended to consume foods that grow in your local area, are fully matured, and are capable of being stored without chemical treatment. Some products affect the body differently depending on the given climate. For example, consuming sweet watermelon, a product of pronounced cooling properties, can disrupt the already weakened digestion in the summer. Therefore, it is very important to follow moderation and establish a coexistence between certain foods and products for the sake of balance.

Digesting food signals the adaptations your body would provide as it learns to cope with its properties and adjusts for future consumption. Essentially, it rebuilds itself and creates a new metabolic structure. What the body cannot absorb soon becomes toxic. The body then begins to store these toxins, which in time, can become a source of chronic disease.

Food, for many people, has turned into an addiction, a habit partly because it is imposed by the world around us. But in order to live healthy, it is better to get used to eating healthy! The habit of unhealthy food should also be eradicated gradually so that the digestive system can adapt to the changing season. Summer is the most favorable period for acquiring new habits in nutrition and expanding the range of foods and dishes!

Take care of yourself and be well.
